Diphenylphosphine oxide (DPPO) is a versatile organophosphorus compound widely used as a ligand precursor in transition metal catalysis and as a key intermediate for pharmaceutical synthesis. This thermally stable compound (mp 56-57°C) features a polar P=O bond (dipole moment 4.3D) that enables unique coordination properties with rare earth metals. It serves as a crucial building block for OLED materials, PROTAC degraders, and lithium battery additives. The material should be stored under inert atmosphere (N₂/Ar) at room temperature due to moisture sensitivity. Safety precautions include wearing PPE as it may cause eye/skin irritation (GHS Category 2). Recent applications include CO₂ capture materials and perovskite solar cell modifiers.
