2-Butyl-1,2-benzisothiazolin-3-one (BBIT) is a highly effective broad-spectrum biocide widely used in polymer protection. It demonstrates excellent antimicrobial activity against bacteria, fungi and algae in PVC, polyurethanes, silicone resins, polyolefins and acrylic products. The compound has a flash point of 155°C (±5°C) and boiling point of 332.9°C at 760 mmHg. With low water solubility (90 cP viscosity at 20°C) and ≤1.0% water content, it provides durable surface antimicrobial effects. BBIT is incompatible with thiols, bleaches and sodium metabisulfite. Storage requires protection from moisture and light in sealed containers. Safety precautions include wearing chemical-resistant gloves due to its irritating properties (GHS Category 2).
