N-Methyl-1,2-benzisothiazolin-3-one (MBIT) is a highly effective industrial biocide and preservative belonging to the isothiazolinone class. It demonstrates broad-spectrum activity against bacteria, fungi, and yeasts, with particular efficacy in high-temperature (up to 100°C) and alkaline conditions (pH 2-12). MBIT is widely used in water-based systems including paints, adhesives, metalworking fluids, and personal care products. The compound exhibits excellent chemical stability with a melting point of 51°C and predicted boiling point of 294.3±23.0°C. As a halogen-free preservative, it requires no metal ion stabilization. Storage should be in sealed containers at room temperature, protected from light. Safety precautions include wearing protective equipment due to potential skin sensitization (GHS Category 1).
