1,2-Benzisothiazol-3(2H)-one (BIT) is a highly effective industrial biocide and preservative widely used in water-based systems. It demonstrates broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity against bacteria, fungi and yeasts, with typical usage concentrations of 0.05-0.25%. The compound has a melting point of 154-158°C, boiling point of 204.5°C at 760 mmHg, and density of 1.367 g/cm³. Its stability under high temperature (up to 100°C) and alkaline conditions (pH 9-12) makes it particularly suitable for latex paints, polymer emulsions, adhesives, and metalworking fluids. BIT should be stored in sealed containers away from strong oxidizers. Safety precautions are required due to its irritant properties (GHS Category 2).
