Tribromomethyl phenyl sulfone (TBMPS) is a brominated organic compound primarily used as a photoinitiator in UV-curable coatings, inks, and adhesives. It functions by generating free radicals under UV light exposure, initiating polymerization reactions. The compound exhibits a melting point of 145–149°C and a density of 2.3 g/cm³. It is soluble in acetone but has low solubility in water. TBMPS is also employed as a reactive intermediate in organic synthesis, particularly in the preparation of flame retardants and pharmaceutical agents. Safety measures include avoiding direct exposure to skin/eyes (Xi hazard symbol) and storing in a cool, dry place sealed under inert gas.
