Product Description

6-Bromo-4,4-dimethylthiochroman is a thio-chroman (dihydro-1-benzothiopyran) derivative bearing a bromine atom at position 6 and two geminal methyl groups at C-4. The compound is air- and light-stable, freely soluble in dichloromethane, chloroform, ethyl acetate and hot ethanol, and practically insoluble in water. It is a versatile building block for transition-metal-catalysed cross-coupling reactions and for the construction of sulfur-containing pharmaceutical or opto-electronic scaffolds. Commercial material is supplied at ≥98 % purity.
Key Physicochemical Data:

Log P (octanol/water): 4.8 (predicted)
Typical Uses:
Versatile intermediate for Suzuki, Sonogashira or Buchwald–Hartwig couplings at the brominated 6-position.
Precursor to 6-aryl/6-heteroaryl-4,4-dimethylthiochromans with potential κ-opioid receptor affinity.
Core unit for thiochroman-based OLED host materials after further borylation or phosphination.
