Product Description

4,4'-Dichloro diphenyl sulfide is an aromatic thio-ether in which chlorine atoms are located para to the sulfur bridge on both benzene rings. The compound is essentially odourless, stable under ambient conditions, freely soluble in hot ethanol, ethyl acetate and dichloromethane, and practically insoluble in water.
Key physicochemical data:
Melting point: 98–100 °C (lit.)
Predicted boiling point: 385 °C at 760 mmHg
Density: 1.40 g cm⁻³ (20 °C, solid)
Flash point: >200 °C
Log P (octanol/water): 5.4 (predicted)
Typical uses:
Central building block for 4,4'-dichloro-diphenyl sulfoxide/sulfone pharmaceutical intermediates and agro-chemicals.
Precursor for para-substituted diaryl sulfones used as COX-2 inhibitors, herbicide safeners and UV-absorbers.
Model substrate for mechanistic studies on electron-deficient C–S bond activation and cross-coupling reactions.
Quality specification (commercial grade):
Purity (GC): ≥98 %
Water content (KF): ≤0.3 %
Residue on ignition: ≤0.1 %
Heavy metals: ≤20 ppm
