A highly chlorinated, zinc-centred bisthiophenolate that combines strong electron-withdrawing character (ten Cl atoms) with thermal stability up to 360 °C. The complex is essentially insoluble in water, readily dispersible in rubber matrices and exhibits:
Ultra-efficient rubber peptising action – shortens mastication time of NR, BR, SBR, NBR and IR by 30–50 % at 0.1–0.4 phr without affecting cure kinetics or final mechanical properties.
Green-rubber compatibility – sulfur cures terminate its activity, leaving no odour or staining; approved under EU REACH for use in “green” tyres and light-coloured articles .
Golf-ball core enhancer – refined grade (> 98.5 %) improves rebound elasticity and compression set of high-end golf cores when blended at 0.2 phr.
UV-/oxidation stability – the Zn-S bond and per-chloro ring impart excellent anti-UV and anti-oxidation performance, allowing its use as a UV-screening synergist in clear rubber coatings.
Low acute toxicity – oral rat LD₅₀ > 13 g kg⁻¹, classed as low-toxic; however, thermal decomposition releases ZnO, HCl and SOₓ; standard dust and thermal precautions apply .
Store in sealed, low-humidity conditions away from strong oxidants and acids; shelf life ≥ 24 months under nitrogen at ≤ 25 °C.
