A rigid, para-oriented aromatic dithiol combining two strongly nucleophilic –SH groups. It is a strategic building block for:
High-refractive-index poly(aryl sulfide) resins (nD ≈ 1.70) used in 5G lens substrates and OLED encapsulation films;
Self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) on gold or silver, providing densely packed, defect-free films for SERS biosensors and mercury-ion optrodes with detection limits down to 1 ppt;
Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and coordination polymers – soft S-donor plus hard O-donor sites allow construction of heterometallic cages for gas storage (CO₂, CH₄) and catalysis;
Pharmaceutical & biotech intermediates – reacts with alkyl/aryl dihalides to give linear or macrocyclic thio-ethers used in kinase inhibitors and PROTAC linkers;
Cross-linker for epoxy/PU systems, imparting enhanced chemical resistance and flexibility at 1–3 wt % loading.
Store sealed, dry and under nitrogen; avoid strong oxidants to prevent disulfide formation.
