Product Description

Key GRAS sulphur flavourant (FEMA 2493) occurring naturally in coffee, roast beef and onions. Used at 0.3–2 mg kg⁻¹ in beverages, baked goods and meat analogues for "roasted-coffee" notes . Beyond food, the furan-thiol motif is a building block for:
Coffee-like fragrance chemicals and thio-ester photoinitiators;
S-(furfuryl) thiophosphate agro-chemicals via base-catalysed coupling with dialkyl phosphites ;
Corrosion inhibitors for nitric acid systems;
Precursor to Au/Ag surface SAMs for SERS detection of mercury.
Store under nitrogen, 2–8 °C, away from light and oxidants; flash point 45 °C—handle in grounded equipment.
